The blog has an all-new design, with easier access to the About page, a list of tags, and a chronological archive of all posts.
The home page features the latest post at the top, followed by cards of earlier posts. Click or tap one to read the whole post. The posts can be viewed in newest first or oldest first order. And search filtering of posts is available on all pages.
The Tags page provides a quick way to see posts on specific topics.
The Archive lists the years and months of posts. Expand the disclosure triangle before a month to list the titles of posts within that month, or click or tap the month name to go to a page showing those posts.
This blog used to use WordPress, a popular platform for blogs and more complex sites, but I've never been happy with the design and features. I thought about creating a new theme for it, but decided to go all in, and write a new blog engine for all three of my blogs — Dejal, my app company blog; Sinclair Trails, my travel blog; and Dejus, my personal blog.
Writing my own blog engine was something that I have wanted to do for years, but considered too big a job... until the modern age of AI. I used Codex to do all the work, based on my design and refinements. The blogs each consist of a shared website engine and blog-specific themes, a catalog of blog posts, and a custom Mac editor using my own DejalMark formatting. I created DejalMark decades ago, about the same time as John Gruber created Markdown, but mine was initially only used for Dejal release notes. I extended it for Time Out 3.1 for the new Messages feature, and have extended it again for use with blog posts.
