Happy birthday Rory! She is eight years old today, which is old age for a Great Dane, and a miracle for one who lost a leg to cancer when she was two. We gave her a special treat to celebrate. 🐕🎁

For week/year 29 of my 52 years celebration, from 1999: me with my 30th birthday cake; we had a Star Wars themed birthday party. That was when I started shaving my head, too. #ThrowbackThursday #52years

The answer to today’s #WhatsItWednesday question, as correctly identified on Micro.blog and Twitter: it’s a wooden cannonball puzzle, where you stack joined spheres to form a pyramid. Not very difficult, but not too easy either.

On the Dejal blog: a fun tip on using Simon for something unusual: watching a Yellowstone National Park entrance camera. See the post for a GIF of the traffic yesterday.

A very true quote from Heinlein’s The Cat Who Walks Through Walls: 💬

Never pick up a stray kitten ... unless you've already made up your mind to be owned by it.

A house drives by — two halves of a manufactured home being transported on trucks.

Health update: I’m feeling much better now. Still a cough persisting, as these things do, but otherwise fine. Jenn is feeling unwell too, but also improving. We both did at-home COVID tests today, just in case, but both were negative. So just the normal bugs. 🦠

Rory doesn't like car trips, probably because she doesn’t do it as often as many dogs. She has the entire back of the car, but wants to be up front with us, for reassurance… which results in dog slobber on my shorts. But she eventually calms down a bit. 🐕🚙

Still sick; my temperature dipped down last night, but is back to 100.4 °F this morning. Better than 102.3, I guess. 🦠🌡🛌

That’ll teach me not to go out amongst the unwashed masses. In bed with a mild fever. Hopefully not COVID, but at least I’m fully vaccinated, so I don’t need to worry too much about symptoms or transmissibility. 🦠🌡🛌

We’re in Ashland for a long-scheduled brief vacation. Yesterday we did some wine tasting at three vineyards around the Jacksonville area. 🍷
