I got my first COVID-19 vaccination today (Moderna), at a drive-thru clinic (what’s more American than drive-thru vaccinations?!). Quite an easy process, and definitely a relief to start the clock on immunity. Back there in a month for number two. 💉🦠

Last year we were looking forward to visiting New Zealand, doing a big driving tour of the South Island. One week before our departure, COVID-19 was declared a pandemic, and the following day, one year ago today, we postponed the trip. 🦠🗺✈️🚗🇳🇿
Oregon now has a shelter-in-place order due to the COVID-19 pandemic. #StayHomeSaveLives
As many people have pointed out, and I just want to note on my blog, New Zealand will be instituting very strict restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including requiring 14 days of self-isolation for all arrivals. So we are very glad that we made the decision to postpone our trip.
Help me out, folks. This time next week, my wife and I are scheduled to be in New Zealand, to visit my family and tour the South Island, celebrating our 25th anniversary. A trip (from the US) that we booked six months ago.
But with the COVID-19 pandemic going on now, we’re having major misgivings of the wisdom of taking an international trip at present. NZ only has five cases, but there’s risk of exposure in airports and planes, and other unknowns. But on the other hand, the risk probably is fairly low, and if we cancelled, we’d probably lose a lot of money, since many things couldn’t be cancelled.
What do you think we should do?
Memo to self: just because we didn’t have problems with mosquitos last time we were in in Cancun, doesn’t mean we won’t another time. Everyone has been suffering lots of bites.
Click or tap to see a picture of my wrist with multiple mosquito bites (hidden behind a link, because eww).
I’m suffering WWDC-crud currently; I thought I’d done a good enough job avoiding it, but alas. Feeling very weak and sore throat at present.
